A recent February 15th Bloomberg article, entitled “Takeda Worried About Actoss Cancer Link, Filing Shows” reveals that Takeda Pharmaceuticalsthe company known for the diabetes drug Actoswas so concerned about a risk between the diabetes drug Actos and cancer, that it questioned doctors on whether they would prescribe a drug that had a warning about the disease on its label. This information has reportedly come to light in an ongoing lawsuit against Takeda (Cooper v. Takeda Pharmaceuticals America, Inc., CGC-12-518535, California Superior Court of Los Angeles).

According to Bloomberg, lawyers representing Actos side effects victims accuse Takeda of having secretly surveyed a dozen doctors in 2003, in order to see if they would recommend a diabetes drug with potentially fatal side effects. The survey indicated that a bladder cancer warning would destroy the sales of Takedas most important drug, according to a January 25th filing by one of the attorneys.

Jeff Nadrich, a Los Angeles Actos attorney, has been providing regular updates on his blog regarding the Actos news developments. According to Nadrich, The FDA has warned consumers about the link between Actos and bladder cancer, and this latest revelation raises the suspicion that Takeda may have known about the link more than a decade ago.

Nadrich encourages Actos users to speak to their doctor about possible alternatives, and he urges Atos side effect victims to seek legal counsel.
